Liz Firth is the calligrapher, artist and designer behind the Lily and Farron brand. Located north of Sydney, in the coastal city of Newcastle NSW, Liz became intrigued by the “art of beautiful writing” in 2013 after completing her Diploma of Graphic Design. Since then, she has been a dedicated devotee of the calligraphic and hand lettering tradition.

Liz creates her artwork by hand and works in a variety of calligraphic styles, but has a penchant for the highly flourished and ever popular traditional Copperplate, Spencerian and Modern Cursive scripts.

In 2015, Liz was awarded the “Standard of Excellence” for her calligraphy at the Sydney Royal Easter show and in 2016 she was included in the lineup of lettering artists for the international “Typism” Book 3 as well as a participating artist for the “Made it, Make it” Conference Letterpress Exhibition.

Additionally, Liz works in other mediums such as collage and embroidery. Her artwork fuses words, lettering and calligraphy with layers of textures, often referencing her love of classical, jazz and world music, flowers, nature and all things vintage.

Liz holds a Bachelor of Music (Hons), majoring in clarinet, and a Diploma in clarinet performance and teaching. She continues to teach clarinet and saxophone to young beginners and the young at heart, loves her morning coffee, vintage design, restoring old furniture, gardening, playing the cello and lives in an old house with her husband and three cocker spaniels, Tycho, Harry and Zoot.
